International Council On Knowledge Management

The International Council on Knowledge Management (ICKM) (http://www.ickm.net/) is a nonprofit informal grouping of academics and practitioners that started in 2004 in Singapore with the launch of the first international conference on knowledge management. The tension between practitioners and academia is neither new nor limited to the field of knowledge management. The ability to bring these communities together will not only bridge the gap between the two worlds but also create the environment needed for the development of any discipline.

KNOWLEDGE ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT GRADUATE
PROGRAM (EGC), FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF SANTA CATARINA, BRAZIL

The EGC level 6 at CAPES, was the first postgraduation program in engineering and knowledge management created in Brazil. It was officially launched in May 2004, at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, in the city of Florianópolis. The epistemological maturity of the EGC was built from the 1980s onwards. Since then, the Program has been following global discussion agendas, defining topics such as: cognition, applied intelligence, corporate university, production systems, total quality, environmental management, sustainability, entrepreneurship, innovation, among others.

Throughout its history, the EGC has won prizes and established national and international partnerships. In the last quadrennial assessments carried out by CAPES, the ECG obtained concept 6, considered a maximum mark for programs investing in internationalization partnerships.

The results of the EGC are evidenced through the high quality of the research carried out; as well as the relationships established between the program, its graduates and the sectors of society (business, government, R & D and third sector). Since its inception, the PPGEGC has been guided by the priority need to interact with the other players in the regional and national systems of Science, Technology and Innovation as an integral part of the evolution of the study of knowledge as its research object.

EGC conducts research and development (R & D) projects through partnerships with the government sector, providing scholarships, grants and financing for innovation projects. In addition, the Program has invested in collaborative projects aimed at social insertion or focusing on the integration of methods, techniques and practices (management, engineering or knowledge media) applied to society and to business or governmental organizations.
